SomersetIMPACT was established in 1996, bringing together large national and small local voluntary organisations working with families of children with any special need or disability. The aim was to raise awareness of the needs of those families, and increase knowledge of resources and skills within the voluntary sector.

Now a registered charity, our membership includes groups and individuals who support our beliefs in promoting the interests of children with special needs, informing their parents and ensuring their voice is heard in service planning.

Somerset Impact has two paid workers, and is funded by Somerset Social Services, and Education and Health Trusts. Activities are managed by a small executive committee.

Our independence is important to us, and we aim to lobby and influence statutory providers on issues affecting children with special needs. Regular dialogue occurs with principle officers from education, social services and health from across Somerset.

Somerset Impact encourages collaboration between voluntary agencies and service providers, promoting openness, trust and honesty in communication.
